Watanabe Black Tea
The Watanabe family’s organic tea garden sits on a small, beautiful island, Yakushima – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – about 160km off of Kyushu’s south coast.
For their black tea, Mr Watanabe uses the Kanaya Midori varietal, a type which is usually reserved for green tea production – it is this decision that creates part of the fascinating character of this black tea. Once the tea has been processed, he then stores the finished leaves to be aged for two years, allowing the tea to develop its deep, fruity character.
Bursting with bright notes of plum and highly aromatic nature, this tea also delivers an intense depth, creating an extraordinary, elegant black tea.
