A warm, comforting mug of something is just the thing as the chilly nights draw in, and this sweet tea hot toddy is an ideal companion on bonfire night, or a cosy evening in with good company (or an equally good book). It is remarkably simple to make, and a tea-total version using hot apple juice instead of alcohol is just as tasty.
- Black Tea, 2 tsp per cup – we used our Winter Spice blend, but you can try using any black tea – Chai would be delicious too!
- A lemon or two
- Cinnamon sticks – not essential, but we love using them
- Whisky – we used a deep, smoky scotch, but bourbon or any other dark spirit like Brandy or Rum would taste great (Cider Brandy especially!)
Steep the tea just as you would for a normal brew, we brewed Winter Spice for three and a half minutes in a teapot. Fill your mugs (or Irish Coffee glasses, swoon) with tea to just over 2/3 full. To each mug squeeze in half a lemon, 1 tbsp honey and stir. Then add 1 shot of alcohol and snap in half a cinnamon stick. Give everything a good muddle, and enjoy. Really hits the spot.
